The Devil Wears Prada

Ok so I think that this is one of those films to keep tucked away in the cupboard for slate-grey days, where you don’t want to leave with a laugh splitting your sides, but a warm smile of how sarcastic yet embracing reality can be. Ok the story line was not earth shattering but the execution was classic - why do I love older Matriarch actresses like this - Meryl Streep reminded me here of the role that she played in The Hours - the strong person whose humanity just shines through. She may well have been the Devil tonight, but she was a beautiful Devil.
So this is not a movie review so I will spare you the details - but there are some one liners that I would adore using at work! And there are very few quotables these days - Karen in Will & Grace; Priscilla, Queen of the Desert; and Tea with Mussolini without saying! This one rates up there though for quotes, especially the first part of the movie …
“The details of your incompetence do not interest me” - Miranda
You sold your soul to the devil when you put on your first pair of Jimmy Choo’s!” - Emily
“Other girls dream of working here. You merely deign.” - Nigel
Ok - it was awesome - any of you who have not yet seen in should be running to the theatre to do so. And please if you are going to, do it on a slate-grey day when your soul is a little bit down and needs a gentle warm. And the shots of New York made me feel like this story was part of me and maybe some of what I have gone through at certain levels in coming here - the challenge of being who you are in a city that demands so much of you. It is a great place, and it was a great movie.
