Minor dilemma here – what do you take to a dinner party in New York? Kiwi’s would take wine, only because we make the best new-world wine you can get. Any advice would be great
I would always bring wine to a dinner party unless they ask you to bring something else. And if you are going to a gay “party” that doesn’t involve dinner, bring vodka or gin or something you want to drink, in case it turns out to be a bad party, lol.

Frank is so wise! My advise is always take a consumable - that is something that will or can be consumed - either at the party / dinner party or by the hosts afterwards. In the event that it is something that is not to the hosts particular taste - they can always take that bottle of ‘Hardy’s cab/sav/merlot/melbec/pinot that Raewyn gave us’ to someone elses party. The last thing that you should take to a party / dinner party is a non-cunsumable - the world is filled with ugly table lamps and inexpensive cookware - but I figure that is something that you need not inflict on anybody. The only time to give non-consumables as gifts is for birthdays and christmas etc, when you know the person well and you do know, rather than just thinking you know, what it is that they want. Note to Paul: Birthday January - anything Tiffany is fine.

Well thanks for the words of wisdom … I went for the wine … the kiwifruit seems a great idea Alex … a talking piece maybe.
I will take the hard liquor into account when I go to my first gay party in NY … to date they have all been str8 parties … fun, but str8
well Kiwi the trick is to turn straight parties into gay ones !
And I thought you do that with ease after all the lessons I gave you.
Hmmmmm maybe you are an under achiever in that topic
But then alcohol might be a solution
