Friends

November 22, 2006 12:19 am

I was thinking about friends and why they mean so much to me. Maybe its that need to be validated, or the need to know you aren’t alone in the world, to share a smile over nice things that happened, or to acknowledge the pain that rests in some days. Sometimes when I am touched on the shoulder, or smiled at, or even listened to, I feel real inside and know a little bit of what it means to be part of the human experience.

ABC Carpet Happiness on Acid

November 14, 2006 11:11 pm

There are days when gloom threatens to really rain on your parade. When that happens, console your furrowed brow and get you ass into ABC Carpet (888 Broadway). This is Prozac on 6 levels. Who needs Barneys to revive a dulled gay spirit, for now I have found the most colorful and happy space in town. I could feel the genes of my eccentric relatives rising inside me.

This is an institution - you enter the door and are engulfed with hundreds of eclectic chandeliers dripping from the ceiling, furniture made of tree-stumps, riotous silks and pillows, serving people who smile and help you, and a handmade chocolate and coffee shop - and that is only on the first level. French furniture, contemporary furniture, retro furniture, chinese furniture, organic furniture (yes its true), recycled furniture. Linens and pillows and mirrors and rugs - extravagant richness that makes you feel whole again. And if you curled up on one of the beds, they would simply ask you if you found it comfortable.

Borat - The Movie

November 13, 2006 12:17 am

I swear to god above, I do not even know how to start explaining this film. Every offensive, racist, sexist, religiously slandering, culturally insensitive and inappropriate reference you could ever imagine is made against American culture - and it was friggin hilarious.

The howls of laughter did not stop in the theater, but I am sure some walked out. This film is totally on the edge, and totally what film making should be about. I don’t suspect central America will be amused.

According to Internet Movie Database, the police were called 91 times during the making of this film. I am not sure if this would have been for chasing people down 5th Avenue New York trying to kiss them, or for singing a slanderous US national anthem in a Texas rodeo ring, or for running and fighting naked with his sidekick through a plush hotels convention center (complete with convention in progress), or bringing a massive black prostitute in Alabama to a society dinner, or for making the most outrageous comments to a New York feminist group.

My favorite is the release of a live chicken on the E train from JFK into New York City. LOL its a New York moment I could imaging happening. And throughout the film, the reaction of people in the background is priceless.

See it at your own peril - you have been warned - you will either laugh you ass off or you will be finding ways to sue him (like many in the film have)!
