There are days when gloom threatens to really rain on your parade. When that happens, console your furrowed brow and get you ass into ABC Carpet (888 Broadway). This is Prozac on 6 levels. Who needs Barneys to revive a dulled gay spirit, for now I have found the most colorful and happy space in town. I could feel the genes of my eccentric relatives rising inside me.

This is an institution – you enter the door and are engulfed with hundreds of eclectic chandeliers dripping from the ceiling, furniture made of tree-stumps, riotous silks and pillows, serving people who smile and help you, and a handmade chocolate and coffee shop – and that is only on the first level. French furniture, contemporary furniture, retro furniture, chinese furniture, organic furniture (yes its true), recycled furniture. Linens and pillows and mirrors and rugs – extravagant richness that makes you feel whole again. And if you curled up on one of the beds, they would simply ask you if you found it comfortable.
